Millions of young people in Africa, lack skills and competencies needed for 21st-century jobs and are highly unemployable, as they were not being able to develop a skill set while still in school. This is so, because they are taught using decades-old curriculum and content, Under-appreciation of soft skills in schools, most schools lack both the physical and digital infrastructure needed to deliver quality training to students and lack of adequate number of teachers with competencies and skills needed in the 21st century. Thus, in Africa where, each year, an estimated 11 million young people enter a workforce that only has 3 million jobs to offer, due to infamous wide gap between the talent needs of the workforce and the training offered. So, raising a generation that can able to take action and create employment for themselves is a 21st century challenge that cannot be tackled with an approach to education designed for the 19th or 20th centuries, as traditional education isn’t demand-driven, and not producing enough employable to students. It needs new skills: 21st century skills. The problem is an extreme tremendous, as after leaving school, a striking majority of young people enter the informal economy, while many migrate, looking for opportunities elsewhere. The situation is particularly endemic in Sub-Saharan Africa where over 70 per cent of workers are in vulnerable employment against the global average of 46.3 per cent. A large part of vulnerable employment is composed of females classified as contributing family workers. Further, the informal economy in the region contributes, 60-80 per cent of employment; and 90 per cent of new jobs. About 9/10 workers in both rural and urban areas are estimated to hold only informal jobs. While poor job quality remains a pressing issue worldwide. . SOLUTION Trans-Edu delivers a personalized and competency–based learning experiences to young people on Soft Skills: 21st century skills, through entrepreneurship, using Artificial Intelligence powered Interactive e-learning platform, to offer a radically different academic experience that puts students on the fast track to success for a 21st century workplace and to steer the changing world.
