DescriptionHEPALINE TRANSPORT SERVICE The transport industry has been revolutionized over the years. During this pandemic period, shareholders in the industry have particularly taken interest into ensuring their businesses do not suffer losses even as they uphold the laid down regulations to control the spread of the virus. Living in the 21st century, requesting transport services online has become a norm. However this can be costly with the current economic constraints being faced in the country. Resultantly, many citizens opt to use public transport that involves queuing while waiting for a commuter vehicle. It goes without saying that here, it is almost impossible to control and maintain social distancing. We used this challenge as a base for the development of Hepaline transport services. Hepaline is a Swahili term meaning avoid queue. It is an offline transport system platform that intends to change how people view public transportation. By being offline, Hepaline employs the use of USSD application to facilitate booking of commuter buses to and from town at designated places. The employment of USSD applications ensures that the platform would host the largest market in Kenya as it only depends on the user having access to a SIM enabled mobile device. Using their mobile station, a user will be able to dial a dedicated channel for example *123#. By doing this the user then receives a callback on their mobile station screen with an interactive menu through which they are able to choose their preferred route of travel and time of travel according to the set timelines. Through this, commuters will be able to avoid the hustle of queuing by booking a seat prior to their travel time. Using USSD application of facilitate transport, many citizens will be able to have their trust in public transport restored. Furthermore, the platform will present a convenient and reliable transport option which is affordable to the common mwananchi.
DescriptionI. Abstract Having been in the city for over a decade, I have seen many Kenyans unhappy in Nairobi. Why? Because the transport sector is a real insane industry. Maybe it is similar in other major towns too like Mombasa and Kisumu, Nakuru, Meru, Kilifi.e.t.c.Mostly the problem we commonly have is poorly managed transport sector. This has the following origins. Firstly, many people have a view that the matatus jobs are for people who are miserable or desperate. The people who only care when you board and not when you alight. Individuals who believe that there are many passengers every day, so no need to have a sane model to restore sanity in this sector. So you can be mishandled or mishandle an operator and they do nothing about it.Having been a daily communter I can sincerely confirm that this sector can employ atleast a million people in the county. When many are employed we reduce so many problems and promote the economy and sanity in the sector. Secondly, as we have failed to offer lasting solutions affecting this sector many challenges have advanced over the years. Among them are high crime rates, build-up of traffic, insecurity, and rogue driving and even rape among the road users. Neglect of the potential we can have in this sector. I have been thinking of a way to restore sanity and make it a real income generating opportunity to employ both the drivers, marshals, conductors and even clerical and stewards at various stages along the supply chain. Thirdly, I have a solution that can run for at least three years. The solution will ensure we are law abiding citizens and gain reliability in this sector. A simple model have built over years will see the sector become a respected industry by both passengers and the matatu operators. This idea will see them get short term training and coaching to adapt to this model. Fourth, the model.I call it, Rise up, together we can make ti.The model is as follows. I have to register a service provision company to the matatu sector.Main aim is to be a middle man between matatu owners and the saccos. They are to employ fully trained personnel who will be gainfully employed by the matatu owners.Have them with NHIF,NSSF AND PAYE deducted and remitted to the taxman. Have a training manual for the drivers, conductors and vehicle owners. Train Sacco’s on how to work to achieve it.Make the sector a contract of employment with monthly pay and deductions. Adopt a payroll model for the staffs here.Ensure the youths are gainfully incorporated. Use digital payments mostly.Involve banks in our payment of insurances, salaries, loans and taxes’. Additionally i will want to partner with mobile money providers on this. Main area is both matatu operators and owners wealth and interests are taken care of. In short I have an idea on how to formalize the transport sector to reduce traffic
